The Wheen Foundation is a not-for-profit Company Limited by Guarantee. Any monies it receives for services it provides are income tax exempt.
The Foundation has also set up a separate Trust Account whose funds are to be used solely to support research. Donations to the Trust Account will be tax deductible for the donor. Currently the Board of the Foundation also serves as the Trustees for the Trust Account. We anticipate that the Trustees will appoint a Scientific Advisory Committee to provide guidance on expenditure of Trust funds.
The Foundation will not itself conduct research. Instead it will use Trust Funds to support research by recognised research organisations such as CSIRO, Universities, Museums or State Departments.
The Foundation will foster arrangements which encourage research groups to collaborate so that donors will get the best return on investment. In this manner, the Foundation would be using its resources to maximise leverage in support of beekeeping by promoting research, education, training and community engagement.
Donations will be accepted in two categories; untied and tied donations. Untied donations are not linked to any particular research topic. These funds would then be used at the discretion of the Trustees to support activities from time to time which the Board and its advisors believe are in the best interests of the beekeeping industry.
Tied donations would be used to support specific and identified research topics, such as a stock improvement program, selection and evaluation of varroa-tolerant stock, Colony Collapse Disorder; or any other topic which are given high priority by the industry or by funding bodies such as the Honey Bee R&D Advisory Committee of RIRDC, HAL or Pollination Australia. Views expressed by donors would receive careful attention.
We will shortly provide details on this web page as to how to make donations. Receipts will be issued to confirm Tax Deductible donations.
Donations can be made by direct deposit to the following Bendigo Bank account;
